Ingredients
- 3 lb. apples, peeled, cored, and cut into chunks
- 1/2 cup apple juice or cider
- 2 Tbsp. lemon juice (or 1/2 of one medium lemon)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, more or less to taste
- Optional ingredients: Nutmeg, maple syrup, allspice, butter, to taste
Instructions
-
Combine all ingredients in a 4-5 qt. pot and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 25 minutes.
- Carefully use an immersion blender to blend the apples into desired sauce thickness. Alternatively, carefully puree in a food processor or blender, splitting into batches, if needed.
- Taste and adjust spices. Cool to room temp, then refrigerate for storage.
Rebecca's Notes
- This is completely customizable! Reduce the sugar or adjust the spices/flavorings to your taste.
- Want more? Simply 1.5x or double this recipe. Just make sure you are working in a pot that is at least 5 qt. in size.
